Russia: Blueberry consumption increases 83%, with morocco leading supplier

According to the Gidmarket agency, the consumption of blueberries in Russia in 2019 increased by 82,8% compared to 2017, from 26,7 g to 48,8 g per person per year. Furthermore, consumption has also increased with the pandemic, while Morocco continues to be the main supplier of this fruit to Russia.

In monetary terms, in 2019 the average per capita consumption of blueberries per year doubled compared to 2017. According to Fruitnews, such an increase can be explained by “a trend towards a healthy lifestyle, the vegetarianism , organic food; the growing popularity of blueberries among the population, their beneficial properties for the body; a growing segment of fresh blueberry processing, expand your application areas; increase the world production of blueberries ”.

"Given that the production volume of this agricultural product in Russia is still extremely low, it is easier to follow the evolution of consumption volumes from the import data of berries from the Federal Customs Service", indicates the same source.

The growth of imports and, therefore, the consumption of berries of the genus Vaccínium (nomenclature of goods subject to the Foreign Trade Code 081040), including fresh blueberries, blueberries, blueberries and red blueberries represented 184% from 2017 to 2019. In In 2017, the import of these berries was 17,4 g per person per year, but in 2019 it had increased to 49,4 g per person per year, which is a remarkable step forward.
