Blueberry movement expected to increase through Arizona, California and Texas

The national average price of diesel fuel has been falling steadily for almost two months from the peak prices experienced at the beginning of the year. With these lower costs, many trucking rates are coming down as well, with some near levels not seen since late 2019.

The truck and driver shortages that have strained the supply chain in recent years have also eased, with even the typically high-demand holiday shipping season showing mostly adequate availability this year. With these positive signs, along with the easing of certain inflation indicators, industry members and consumers alike can expect better times in 2023.

The movement of blueberries through Arizona, California and Texas is expected to increase. Trading was subdued, with prices generally unchanged. Flats 12 6oz mugs with large lids, mostly 12.00. Quality is reported as variable. Chilean blueberry imports through several East Coast and West Coast ports of entry are expected to increase as the harvest increases. Trade was very light for very light supplies. The first FOB reports are expected within the week. Peruvian blueberry imports through Philadelphia and New York area ports of entry are expected to decline as more growers finish the season. Trading was quite active, with prices unchanged.
