International Seminar Blueberries Chile 2023 incorporates a high value crop: the cherry

This April 13 at the Monticello Conference Center, Blueberries Consulting organizes the XXV° edition of its renowned international seminars. Without neglecting its long history with the most exported berry in the country, the event expands to the cherry industry.

In the 90s, Chile began to increase its agro-industrial development, achieving double-digit growth in some sectors. It was this trend that made Chile a pioneer in Latin America in innovative crops for the time and striking due to their high value, such as blueberries and cherries.

It is these two fruits that will be the protagonists of the XXV International Blueberries Consulting Seminar 2023, held at the Monticello Conference Center on April 13.

After challenging seasons, the Chilean blueberry industry remains resilient and organized, facing the challenges brought on by the pandemic. Even though the union projects a decrease in the export of fresh berries, the sector seeks to continue advancing, modernizing its production to focus on the good quality of blueberries that has characterized the Chilean industry for many years.

Chilean cherries remain unattainable in terms of participation in exports from the southern hemisphere, reaching 95.7% participation in the total exported by the area. Chile has the task of continuing to strengthen the industry through the selection of varieties, in addition to promoting consumption in new markets for late national harvests.

Although they have different commercial realities, both crops share the quality of having been part of Chile's agro-industrial boom with a leading role, monopolizing much of the research carried out in the country.

That is why, in the same spirit as in previous editions, Blueberries Consulting, a company specializing in the dissemination of technical and commercial information on blueberries, includes the cherry industry during this edition, maintaining the same commitment: to promote the fruit and its competitiveness through market information and innovations in its cultivation, specially selected for the reality of the country.

Both the blueberry and the cherry will have their own conference rooms, where leading national and international researchers, academics and experts will present simultaneously on the strengths and challenges faced by each fruit, with their respective possible solutions.

Attendees will be able to share in the common commercial room, where important supplier companies and unions will be able to talk about problems such as the availability of resources and logistical problems, challenges faced by both cherry and blueberry producers.

Another novelty will be the inclusion of more networking activities to encourage dialogue within each industry. In addition, in an extraordinary way, the event will provide the opportunity for leaders, producers and relevant actors in the productive chains of the fruits to share and support each other.
