South Africa: BerryWorld forecasts berry production 15% higher than in 2021

The leading soft fruit supplier is positive at the start of the South African blueberry campaign.

BerryWorld forecasts a 15% increase in soft fruit production compared to last year in the southern hemisphere of South Africa and Zimbabwe. In this regard, the CEO of BerryWorld South Africa, Jason Richardson, emphasizes that "we are growing with our current customer base, while we continue to explore expansion opportunities in different market segments to give our producers exposure to a good mix of orders worldwide."

Founded in 1993, BerryWorld South Africa has become the largest exporter of blueberries in the country with growing areas with different cold hours in South Africa and Zimbabwe to guarantee an earlier start and a longer season.

Following the success of the first MBO releases first brought to market in 2017, the BerryWorld team has focused on expand its premium varietal offer, with the aim of optimizing premium quality lines with top-tier international supermarkets, fostering shopper loyalty and boosting consumption.

One of the most outstanding blueberry varieties is BerryWorld® Eureka Sunrise™Selected by world-renowned breeder Ridley Bell in 2014 for being early, as well as for its high yield and unique flavor, will see 85% year-on-year growth this season, demonstrating an appetite for premium varieties.

Given the challenges facing the global fresh produce industry, the BerryWorld South Africa team is employing various strategies to ensure it is a successful season.
