Ukraine in 2019 will double exports of blueberries

At 2019, Ukraine will significantly increase exports of fresh berries, mainly blueberries, to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Cranberry exports can reach between 1,000,000 and 1,000,000 tons between 4,5 and 5,0, which is double last year's exports.

This was said by the economist of the Investment Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Andriy Yarmak, commenting on the preparation for the World Berry Congress, reports the press service of East-Fruit.

«For many years, we have systematically and specifically promoted Ukraine as one of the most important suppliers of berries to Europe, the Middle East and Asian countries. We foresee a sharp increase in the export of fresh berries from Ukraine, mainly blueberries, in 2019. Our estimates show that blueberry exports from Ukraine can reach 4,5-5,0 thousand tons and will be a record, surpassing that of the year passed in the double,” Yarmak said.

He said that last year Ukraine surprised the world of berries during the World Berry Congress for the rapid development of raspberry production and export.

“My forecast for 2018 was considered too optimistic, but the actual volume of berry exports exceeded it by almost a third,” the expert said.
