Latest varietal trends and the analysis and future of the fruit sector will be key topics of Agrotrade Chile 2023

The projections of the agricultural sector, the challenges of the new fruit genetics, and the role of women as agents of change in the world food system will be part of the topics that will be addressed during the eighth international meeting Agrotrade Chile 2023.

As a way of putting on the table the importance of agricultural sustainability within world food security, the eighth version of the Agrotrade It will be the meeting point for leaders and leaders to discuss and exchange ideas about the future of the sector, review the latest trends in varieties and rootstocks, analyze the role of women in world food security, and make contact with nurserymen, producers of fruit, suppliers of inputs, services and technologies.

“The world scenario leads us to think about agriculture that is more resilient to changes, so knowing the latest trends, projections and new actors that are involved in the future of the sector is essential to look at the new challenges with perspective. That is the seal that we have wanted to give to this version of Agrotrade 2023”, comments the executive director of Viveros de Chile, Maritrini Lapuente. 

In addition, with a focus on the sustainability of the sector, experts will analyze the current world context, marked by climatic extremes, economic pressures and conflicts.

“We have just been facing very difficult seasons, and not only due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also to factors associated with climate change, productivity, the availability of workers, the rise in inputs, greater demands in international markets , pests and diseases, as well as significant logistical challenges.

For this reason, we believe that to the extent that we work in coordination between the private and public sectors, as well as between unions and actors from the entire fruit production and export chain, we will be able to advance in solutions that benefit us all, especially our country", pointed out Iván Marambio, president of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), who will be part of the exhibitors and conversation panels during the day.

Through talks, conversation panels and a fair with stands and national and international exhibitors, the main players in agriculture will be able to talk and learn about the different challenges of the new fruit genetics, where prominent leaders in varietal improvement will talk about the existing offer. and its impact on fruit growing.

“Genetics will be the pillar of the development of agriculture in the future. Not only does it open up possibilities for fruit trees with desired characteristics in terms of flavor, colors, and sizes, but it will also allow us to use resources more efficiently, saving water and labor, adapting to border areas, and achieving greater sustainability by developing tolerant plants. pests and diseases”, explains the president of Uvanova and 2nd vice president of the SNA.
