Uruguay: Good reception to Uruguayan firms at fruit and vegetable fair in Berlin

«Uruguay is a relatively new country in the export of blueberries, but it includes the entire trajectory that we already had on a citrus scale», the Uruguayan ambassador in Germany, Alberto Guani, explained to Efe.

The country was known for decades as an exporter mainly of meat and that is due to "its good reputation as a serious and responsible producer", attentive to the defense of standards not only in terms of food safety, but also labor legislation and quality of products. products.

«Germany is a country of large fairs, which is why our presence here is essential. And it is also a country that looks out for respect for these factors.", added the diplomat from the Uruguayan institutional speaker, located in the heart of the pavilion dedicated to the whole of Latin America.

The food sector is in full swing -«In 2008 we fed 8 million people, now we are beyond 30 million»said Guani.

Uruguay currently exports its food products to 160 countries, but wants to expand and open markets, in which the maintenance of the "Good reputation" as a producer of "reliable foods".

Its line of quality fruits is the stamp of Uruguay in Fruit Logistica, fair that welcomes a total of 2.800 exhibitors, coming from 84 countries and that throughout its three days of existence is expected to receive 65.000 visitors.

In the Uruguayan stand are represented nine of the most representative companies in the Uruguayan fruit and vegetable sector, with citrus and blueberries as star products.

«Along with the aforementioned factors of reliability and quality, we offer the German consumer, and the rest of Europe, the seasonal factor. That is, we can export our fresh fruit precisely when it is cold and raining here., explained Guani.

In 2015, Uruguay exported more than 100.000 tons of fruit for more than 90 million dollars, figures that indicate steady and consolidated growth, the ambassador recalled.

«We have been attending the fair for eight years. At first in a small, very small stand. Now we have this position of our own. Of course we will continue coming to Fruit Logistica», said Monica Coito, from Naranjales Guarino, one of the Uruguayan citrus exporters present at the fair.

«Germany is, for us, a great showcase on a global scale. It is in our best interest to continue investing with our presence here.", added the representative of the sector, in a break between their activities during the Fruit Logistica.
