Uzbekistan increases imports of raspberries for freezing from Tajikistan in response to Russian demand

It is noted an interesting trend in the Central Asian soft fruit market. After many local freezers suffered huge losses from freezing raspberries in the 2022/23 season, following the collapse of prices on the world market for this frozen berry, in the 2023/24 season freezers did not buy raspberries at all. However, now experts observe a strong renewal of interest in raspberries.

Although the region has problems with raspberry production volumes and quality, it is one of the most interesting berries in 2024 for market participants.

Reportedly, the berry business in Tajikistan has traditionally developed more dynamically. Therefore, just like two years ago, in 2024 there will be companies from Uzbekistan that will import large volumes of fresh raspberries to freeze from Tajikistan.

According to international fruit and vegetable expert Bakhtiyor Abduvohidov, the purchase price of raspberries in Tajikistan in 2024 will be approximately 1,3 US dollars per kilogram, EastFruit reported At the end of june. According to him, the volume of Tajik raspberry exports to Uzbekistan will be approximately 20 tons per day.

Currently, Uzbek processors export frozen raspberries to the Russian market at a price of about 2 US dollars per kilo. For comparison, prices for high-quality frozen raspberries at the end of the sales season in the EU were estimated at around US$3,20 per kilo. However, Central Asian countries cannot yet offer raspberries of this quality because their varieties are obsolete. Therefore, this price is very attractive both for freezers and for farmers who grow this berry in both Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
