The blueberry shipments of early productions have already begun

Recently the Committee of Cranberries of Chile informed that for this season it is estimated a growth between a 7,5% and 19% in the total of fresh blueberries exported in relation to last season. This translates into a volume between 99 thousand and 109 tons.
As explained to Fruit Portal, the executive director of the Committee, Andrés Armstrong, so far the weather conditions have behaved similarly to previous years and the frosts that have been registered are already considered in the forecast.
This additional volume allows us to continue supplying our destination markets and accompany the increase in demand ", pointed to our environment.
Regarding the start of the season, he pointed out that there is a slight delay compared to the previous year but that the availability of blueberries will depend on the different regions. However, the first shipments of the earliest productions have already begun and it is expected to exceed 4 thousand tons in week 49 (first week of December).
In relation to the US market -and how it is presented with the offers from Peru and Argentina- Armstrong indicated that the US has a local production that has grown at a rate of around 10% per year in circumstances that from Chile the supply to that market has remained practically stable in the last 5 seasons "So we believe there is room for everyone."
"Argentina mainly complements our production between September and November, and Peru although with increasing volume, still has small volumes that in the last two years has been concentrated mostly in the month of December", Agregó.
On the other hand, he said that the Committee has promoted the consumption of blueberries in various markets, with Asia and Europe showing the greatest dynamism.
"This season we will continue with our promotion actions but the situation of the exchange rate of the Euro and the Yuan may impact in some way the rate of growth we have achieved in previous years"He said.
