Berries and vegetables lead Andalusia's exports during 2020

The sector remains the leader in sales, with encouraging figures despite the context of the coronavirus with sales to much of Europe.

Great export growth in provinces of Spain

Several provinces of Spain have shown a strong rise in its number of exports despite the current context of Covid-19. Andalusia is one of those that showed positive figures in fruit and vegetable exports in 2020, with 6.026 million euros in sales abroad, its historical maximum for a year since there are comparable records, thanks to a growth of 3,5% compared to to the 2019 data. With this, it positioned itself as the leader in Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, with almost two out of every five euros of national sales, which reached 16.459 euros, well ahead of the following, Valencian Community with 26,4 % and Murcia 18,5%, according to Extenda data.

Blueberry growth rise 11,4%

Although the fruit and vegetable world benefited in general, it was the berry group that led the rise. Meanwhile, blueberries, with 326 million (5,4%) rose by 11,4%.

In addition, he highlighted the contribution that exports make to the Andalusian trade balance, “to which it contributes a surplus of 5.012 million and with a coverage rate of 594%, which means that horticultural exports from Andalusia multiply imports by six ”.

Europe: main market

2020 was a positive year for the European export market, where the first foreign destination is Germany, with 1.756 million, an advance of 6,8% compared to 2019; followed by France, with 992 million and a rise of 3,2%; of the United Kingdom, with 860 million and an increase of 11,4%.
