The blueberry plants developed by the Australian Mountain Blue Orchards (MBO) nursery, inventor of the internationally recognized variety Eureka, will begin to be cultivated in Argentina by the national capital company Extraberries, after obtaining all the approvals from the health authorities .

Extraberries, in a press release, said that in this way it will seek to reconvert its production and increase its export capacity.

The blueberry plants must remain in quarantine for two months in the fields that the Argentine firm owns in Metán (Salta) and in Concordia (Entre Ríos), after which a conversion process begins, with a view to enhancing the local production and comply with internationally required standards.

"This fact, which marks a turning point in the blueberry industry in the country, was possible thanks to the investment decision of Extraberries SA, after more than 3 years of talks and research between the technicians of the companies and negotiations with the organizations phytosanitary products from both countries ”, reported the firm led by Alejandro Bulgheroni.

In this way, the agro-industrial company, which also produces cherries, pears and apples, is positioned in Argentina as one of the leading companies in innovation and quality, in addition to becoming the only one authorized to produce these varieties.

The license obtained from Mountain Blue Orchards will add to the conversion already started in the Extraberries production fields that includes technology related to nutrition and irrigation based on the principles of open hydroponics.

The manager affirmed that the bet is to become "a global platform for the blueberry business in the Southern Hemisphere in Argentina, through a unique business model based on innovation, genetic development, sustainability and the digitization of processes."

The plants that will be used in the project were supplied from Chile by the SynergiaBIO nursery, which belongs to the BioTECNOS Ltda. Society, dedicated to scientific and technological research and production in the area of ​​agricultural, forestry and environmental biotechnology.
