Carlos Hernán Ferrer dies, important figure in the development of blueberries in Chile

Ferrer was one of the most important figures in the blueberry industry since the 80s in Chile, managing to open marketing channels in the European market when the vast majority of Chilean berries were shipped to the United States.

Carlos Hernán Ferrer, an important businessman in the blueberry industry and Director of Carsol Fruit, passed away on November 25, leaving a great regret in the sector.

As the Blueberry Committee we wanted to pay him a small tribute, for which we spoke with some of the people who knew him best and worked with him to tell us about the legacy that Don Carlos left.

Industry pioneer

Jorge Andrés Varela, president of Agroberries SA, recalled that Ferrer was “passionate about the commercialization of berries, especially in the European market where he forged a solid relationship both business and friendship with many importers and / or producers that later had the kindness to present me in different tours and fairs in which we coincide in time ”.

Varela added that "Carlos Hernán was part of the group of pioneers in the field and paved the way for what is today the berry industry both in Chile and in the rest of the region." Finally, he highlighted the legacy he left in the sector, noting that "without a doubt, the industry will remember him and recognize his contribution during all these years dedicated with great enthusiasm to the development and consolidation of the sector."

On the other hand, Sebastián Carmona, General Manager of Carsol, highlighted the support and role of mentor that Don Carlos played in his career and professional growth. "He played a very important role as Director of our company in an important expansion stage, both in Chile and in our first steps abroad." In addition, he added that "there is an important group of professionals who we were lucky to have the time that Don Carlos dedicated to supporting us in our professional growth."

Carmona also underlined Ferrer's daring in the internationalization of the industry, being part of "a generation of entrepreneurs that today allows companies in our country to follow this path and continue to position Chilean companies as relevant players at a global level."

As Blueberries Consulting we join in condolences to his family and friends.
