Peru: The cranberry does not notice the crisis

The cranberry, one of the protagonists of the fruit diets of the markets with greater purchasing power, does not know of crisis.

The export of blueberries from Peru grew in 2015, with respect to the previous year, adding the 92,5 millions of dollars at the end of the year that are equivalent to 9.600 tons, which means 2,3 times more in relation to the previous year, when it obtained an export value of approximately 30 million dollars and a volume of 2.900 tons, according to Veritrade.

And is that the blueberry has many beneficial properties for health. It is free of fats and sodium, free of cholesterol, rich in fibers and has vitamin C. In addition, it has antioxidant properties that provide the following benefits: enhance the immune system, improve vascular function, prevent the development of colon cancer and prevent the increase of cholesterol.

The main destination market was the United States, which led exports by 53,3 million dollars, representing the 58% of the total exported. Other important markets are Holland, which valued exports by 24,4 million dollars, with a share of 26% in the total exported, followed by the United Kingdom with 11,2 million dollars and a share of 12%. For its part, Hong Kong was one of the main markets where blueberries were exported in the year 2013 and 2014 with a share of 21% and 20% of total exports, respectively; however, in 2015 he only obtained a share of 2%.

What has happened is that new markets have appeared, such as Canada, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Denmark.

The main exporters of blueberries in Peru are the companies Camposol SA and TAL SA, which in the 2013 and 2014 years together obtained the 94% and 91% of the total exports, respectively. For 2015, both companies continued to lead shipments, but their share as a whole was reduced to 81%. The company Camposol SA registered a total of 39,3 million dollars with a share of 42% of the total and a volume of 4.300 tons (the 45% of the total volume). The company TAL SA followed with a total of 35,8 million dollars and a share of 39% with an export volume of 3.500 tons (the 37% of the total volume).

On the other hand, the one that grew was the company Hortifrut - Tal SAC, which obtained a considerable share of 9% of the total value of exports (8,5 million dollars) and approximately 882 tons of exported volume (9% of the total volume).
