The last International Seminar held on May 17 in Lima was a meeting in which the interest of the Peruvian industry was appreciated for the new knowledge and to know the result of the latest research carried out regarding the cultivation of blueberries.

The meeting organized by Blueberries Consulting in the Miraflores neighborhood, took place in a context in which the Peruvian industry predicts that for 2023 it will produce around 150 one thousand tons of blueberries, exceeding almost four times the current volumes.

Presence of the main agricultural

Among the attendees, it was possible to appreciate executive and managerial members of the main Peruvian agricultural companies, which are the basis of the export fruit industry, participating in the conversation with the invited international experts on the various aspects of the crop, of its different management, and the new technological tools to achieve more productive results.

The main groups that participate in the cranberry industry of Peru were present, which according to estimates would reach the 6.500 hectares planted in the country.

Industry Overview

Peru is the country that is best projected in the region and this is evident in different areas of its development: infrastructure, investment, connectivity, energy, etc. In the specific field of blueberry production, it manifests itself by providing unbeatable facilities for foreign investment, boosting the industry and offering its exceptional natural qualities for the development of fruit growing. Let's not forget that Peru has all varieties of climate and soil and is one of the five countries with the most water in the world.

According to the specialists, in their analysis of the global reality of the blueberry industry, the tendency is to continue increasing the demand for the fruit and that in the immediate future new actors are integrated into the crop production. This scenario entails highlighting two determining aspects for the future of the industry: In the first order it means that the business has good prospects in its development, but it also implies that competitiveness is a determining factor to protect to continue participating in this market in a advantageous way.

This state of market factors has been understood by the producers and the main companies of Peruvian industry and explains their presence at the Miraflores meeting. It also explains the impetus that in different fields they are giving to the development of individual and collective capacities of their staff, to the good use of technology in their production processes, and to training in new skills and knowledge of their responsible members, in such a way of move quickly in qualitative terms in the face of increasing competition.

Sustained growth

In a few years Peru has gone from not producing blueberries to generate more than 6% of world production. This growth of the Peruvian industry, in addition to having a great impact on the international blueberry production and export industry, will also have a great impact on the country's economy, which is in one of its best moments since, according to the Institute National Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2018 grew 3,2% compared to 2017 and everything indicates that it will continue to grow at a great pace the rest of the year.
