Key contribution: Olmos contributed 65% of Lambayeque's agro-exports in 2022

At the end of 2022 and for the third consecutive year, Lambayeque's agro-exports grew steadily, driven by agro-industrial companies installed on new land belonging to Irrigación Olmos, companies that generate formal employment and the development of their area of ​​influence despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic. and other factors related to the country's political crisis.

In this sense, the general manager of Pro Olmos (an association that brings together the companies installed on new land in Olmos), José Lecaros de Marzi, explained that during 2022 the The contribution of Irrigación Olmos to Lambayeque exports reached 65% of the total shipments from Lambayeque, mainly driven by the blueberry harvest, which continued to have a growing production.

He also noted that of the total blueberry exported by the Lambayeque region, 99.74% (66 million 224,439 kilograms) were produced in Tierras Nuevas of the Olmos Irrigation.

Something similar happened in the same period with fresh grapes, with 44.58% being the contribution of the agro-industrial companies of Irrigación Olmos to the region's exports, which is equivalent to 16 million 216,473 kilograms. Meanwhile, during the same 2022, it contributed 80% (87 million 780,707 kilos) to the production of Hass avocado.

 

Europe and the United States

Lecaros de Marzi recalled that Lambayeque is still the second largest producer of blueberries in the country, after La Libertad. Meanwhile, in grape and avocado production it ranks third after Ica with Piura and La Libertad with Lima, respectively.

The destination markets were various countries in Europe and North America.

For its part, the Department of Information and Electronic Business of Promperú reported that in 2022 Lambayeque's exports reached 978.4 million dollars, an amount that means a growth of 8.3% compared to 2021.

The same source explained that blueberry, grape and avocado exports are the most significant, but added that Lambayeque also increased its levels of shipments of frozen asparagus, coffee, vegetables, mangoes, strawberries, common beans, canned mangoes, rice, among others.
