Chile, the third country in the world with the largest number of producers trained in FSMA

More than 2.500 Chilean producers have been trained in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and from that amount, 1.800 producers were trained through courses conducted by ASOEX, which today opens a new opportunity to participate in these courses, with the support from Corfo

"In the latest statistics published by the official agencies of the United States, the country with the most producers is the United States. Then follows Mexico, and in a third place is Chile, that is, Chile is the third country in the world that has the most producers trained in FSMA. Although if we take it to exported volumes, Chile would be located as the second country in the world with the largest number of producers prepared to face this regulation, "he said in conversation with SimFRUIT, Ricardo Adonis, Executive Secretary of the Safety Committee of ASOEX, and Manager of Development of the Foundation for Fruit Development (FDF).

Adonis, along with highlighting this preparation of the sector, highlighted the importance of the work of the ASOEX Safety Committee to analyze and prepare the Chilean industry in various safety matters. “We have to recognize that ASOEX had the vision of creating the ASOEX Safety Committee, which has carried out a very important job as an agent for the dissemination of safety requirements through the Safety Bulletin, which is issued monthly, and It is available on the ASOEX website, free of charge. This Committee is made up of a group of industry professionals, who meet periodically to analyze the safety issues that are on their agendas and thus set the guidelines for the issues that are important to address and pass on to the industry with information and responses. ”, Explained the professional.

The representative added that this Committee has allowed us to work on the issue of safety in a more structured way as an industry, and within this work structure is the case of the new US safety regulations, FSMA. “This regulation corresponds to a modern legislation, very well done from a scientific safety point of view, and whose implementation has been written and managed, considering the needs of the industry. In this sense, it is legislation that has been agreed with the industry. Thus, to ensure its knowledge, this legislation requires that at least in each field, in each country in the world there is at least one person trained in this law, which is very wise because it is the only way that the United States authorities have to ensure that someone in the field knows the Law ”, he added.

Likewise, Ricardo Adonis, relieved the efforts and preparation of the Chilean industry in FSMA. “Chile has 2.500 producers trained in FSMA to date. Of these, 1.800 have been trained through ASOEX; and with my participation as the lead rapporteur. These trainings have been carried out from Arica to the region of La Araucanía, in a total of 60 courses. It is a strict course, which requires time and attention to take advantage of it as required. It is about 8 or 16 hours in which the participants must be concentrated. The certificates of the courses that we teach, together with ASOEX, are delivered by the United States ”, the safety expert pointed out.
