Korean growth of Chilean fruit

Blueberries and cherries lead the way as Chilean exports to the Asian market increase.

The position of South Korea as a key Asian market for Chilean fruit, it has continued with an increase in exports of 19% during the 2020/21 export season (01/09/20 to 21/08/08).

According to a report by Simfruit , the statistics published by Asoex show that Chile sent 5,71 million boxes (8,2 kg) of fresh fruit to Korea, a del% increase 19,84 compared to the same period in 2019/20.

Korea is the second export market fruit of Chile behind China in Asia, and represents the 4,8% of the fruit exported to the region. Table grapes (2,94 million boxes), blueberries (1,27 million boxes) and cherries (1,16 million boxes) were the main fruits exported to Korea this season.

Additionally, 199,808 boxes of lemons, 66,401 boxes of avocados, 33,120 boxes of oranges and 26,600 boxes of kiwis were shipped.

The two fruits that drove the increase this season have been the blueberries and cherries. Exports of these fruits to Korea in 2020/21 grew by 60,74% and 79,62% respectively, compared to the same period in 2019/20.

This season was also the first opportunity for Chile to export avocados to Korea after it gained access in September 2020.
