Spain: The president of the Port of Huelva announces new regular lines with the United Kingdom and Morocco in 2022
As announced during the Meetings SER organized by Radio Huelva the president of the Port Authority of Huelva (APH), Pilar Miranda, the port will launch new regular lines with the United Kingdom and Morocco in 2022, something that she has called "very important" because "a lot more raw material will leave and agri-food products from the province, at a time when trucks have many problems.
Miranda recalled that the port has requested to be a Schengen border to "have the possibility of moving international passengers" and to have "more regular lines." In this way, she has pointed out that with this possibility, women who come from Morocco to work in the berries will be able to leave from Huelva and "neither they nor the businessmen will have to get up four hours earlier to go to the Port of Algeciras."
The president of the APH has detailed that it is expected that the regular line with the United Kingdom can begin in January and that "the agreement is that by the middle of the year there would also be international passengers", which is why she has reiterated that it is "very important" that be the Schengen border "to be able to make both passenger and freight traffic compatible."
He also highlighted that important environmental work has begun at the Ingeniero Juan Gonzalo Dock so that port operations are more sustainable and more respectful of the environment, for which the sanitation network, the pavement and the electrical network have been renewed. . He has also announced that there are talks with companies to implement "important green hydrogen projects" in the port, as well as that concession procedures will begin "shortly."
The Port of Huelva is the second of the 30 main ports in Europe "that has grown the most in the last ten years," said the president. In 2020, 30 million tons have been moved and this year "with effort and thanks to diversification, last year's data is already exceeded."
In addition, it is "an economic engine." "All companies in the port area sector give rise to 25.500 direct, indirect and induced jobs, which represents 12,5% of employment in the province and 0,8% of employment in Andalusia."
