The gap between Chile and Peru in fruits

The growth of fruit exports allowed Peru to place itself in the Top 20 of fruit suppliers. Although Chile had a slower growth, it consolidated in the Top 10.

During 2020, Chilean fruit exports totaled US $ 5,802 million, 0.42% more than in 2019. With this result, Chile concentrated 4.50% of fruit shipments worldwide, ranking in the top 10 of the supplier ranking. In the case of Peru, even with the accelerated growth of the last decade, it remains far from the results of the southern country. With shipments for US $ 3,847 million, it concentrated 2.60% of exports, placing it in the top 20.

It should be noted that, although Chilean shipments are higher than Peruvians, between 2010 and 2019, Chilean fruit exports grew only 36.60%, while Peruvians increased 516%. In addition, both countries share the same destinations. His top 5 are the United States, the Netherlands, China and the United Kingdom, and the same happens with their agro-export baskets, where grapes and blueberries stand out.

In the case of grapes, Peru's main export product and Chile's second, both countries have the United States as their main destination. In 2020, Chile and Peru, with a share of 37.60% and 31.70%, respectively, positioned themselves as the main suppliers to this market.

A similar situation occurs in the case of blueberries, a fruit for which both countries share the United States as the main destination. In this place, Peru is the main supplier with a participation of 40.40%, while Chile occupies the third position with 21%.
