Business: Argentinian blueberry growers want to dominate the Asian market

Everything seems to indicate that the blueberries produced in Argentina will return through the big door to one of the most attractive markets of today: China. And it is that diverse organisms already work in pro of reaching this objective.

The Minister of Productive Development of the province of Tucumán, Luis Fernandez, told local media that a group of Chinese technicians will visit "soon" that town in the northeast of his country to finalize the project of commercial cooperation between both nations.

“We are facing the opening of the Chinese market, although it is a job that has been pursued for several years. In 2017, Asian technicians came to see how the crops, handling and packaging were developing here," explained Fernández.

According to the head of productive development, it is a "great opportunity" for the Argentine blueberry industry, considering that there is a potential giant in China, a market that considered competitive if the prices are really good and convenient.

"This means that we could place a greater volume of fresh fruit, which has a better value than that of frozen fruit, and thus obtain better income for the province," added Fernández.

Background

The governments of Tucumán and Entre Ríos (Northeast and eastern Argentina, respectively) have been working since last year on a plan that seeks to project the blueberries of these regions into China's fruit market.

And although the first of the provinces already has experience with export (United States and United Kingdom) seek to expand their horizons and conquer the growing and prolific Chinese market.

“The furthest we have gone with our production is to Hong Kong. Our success will depend on the price, as well as the conditions will determine if this can be a small, medium or large business”, affirmed Luis Fernández.
