Apply solar energy to water blueberries

The unconventional renewable energies have become protagonists in the fields of Ñuble, hand in hand with innovative projects that allow to increase the productivity and yield of crops. This is the case of solar energy, whose introduction to the field has been fundamental to maintain clean production processes, such as organic fruit trees. An example of this is the use of photovoltaic solar energy to supply the irrigation of organic berry crops in the Agrícola Santa Isabel Limitada, located in the Pinto district.

This project had a total cost of $ 10.138.645, of which 80 received a% cofinancing with funds from the regional government, and was executed by Chillán de Energia Renovable Antu Power. "This project of solar energy for irrigation of blueberries has been very beneficial for me since we have lowered the costs of local energy a lot, and it is in line with our concept of organic production," comments Héctor Navarrete Arias, owner of Agrícola Santa Isabel of Pinto.

The place was visited by authorities of the Ministry of Energy, headed by the seremi, Carola Venegas, who verified the operation of one of the winners of the renewable energy self-consumption projects. The objective of the program is to encourage investment in Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) for energy self-sufficiency of micro, small and medium enterprises in the Bío Bío Region and Ñuble through the co-financing of projects, thus promoting greater competitiveness and generating in addition, an impulse for local companies to install renewable energy systems.

Projects benefited

During the 2014 until today, 64 projects have benefited from co-financing, which has meant an investment of around 670 one billion pesos. In the area, it is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Energy with the Regional Government of Bío Bío. "Chile is experiencing a revolution in energy, especially solar on a large scale in the north, however, thanks to this competitive program we can also encourage the self-generation of renewable energy on a small scale, favoring SMEs that, as in this case, they can supply energy for irrigation, "said Carola Venegas.

In the agriculture

The Pinto agricultural energy project is an example of the benefits of the application of NCRE in agriculture. In addition to the Regional Government, both the National Irrigation Commission and the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation, have competitive funds to support this type of initiatives, which not only include the use of solar energy, but all projects that use NCRE, such as wind energy, biomass, the production of biogas and run-of-river mini hydroelectric plants, among others.

In this way, it seeks to support, on the one hand, the growth and development of agricultural ventures, and on the other, to diversify the national energy matrix, which means significant savings for farmers and for the country in general, increasing their productivity and your competitiveness
