Chile: blueberry market among the country's leading exports

The Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies of Chile (PASO) delivered the new fruit bulletin with respect to May of this year, which included comparative figures according to the previous year, which showed an increase in exports of Chilean product .
The favorites; Cherries, table grapes and blueberries reached 1,45 million tons, for USD 3.504 million FOB topping the list of products, followed by nuts that also posted positive sales figures of 9.964 tons.
Great demand for fresh fruit
Agriculture has been facing great challenges in recent times, especially as a result of the arrival of the coronavirus and the climatic changes that have hit large exporting countries. However, this did not stop consumer demand from declining. The fruits that have been most in demand, according to the bulletin, are cherries whose exports reach 266 thousand tons, equivalent to USD 1.348 million FOB. This meant an increase of 83% in volume analyzing it with previous years.
Table grapes also added positive figures, reaching 436 thousand tons, registering a decrease of 18% in volume and 25% in value in relation to the same period of the previous year.
The Blueberry Superfood is one of the products that has gained a great presence in the international market as a result of its great beneficial properties for people's health, flavor and production implications. These fruits presented an increase in shipments of 14% in volume and 13% in value, given that they registered an increase in their sales of up to 96 thousand tons that correspond to USD 478 million FOB.
Nuts exports
Dried fruits, for their part, have also shown large increases in their export figures, reaching 9.964 tons, which correspond to USD 45,57 million FOB during January-April of this year. Figures that, with respect to the year 2020, obtained an increase of 27% in volume and 4% in value.
Walnuts and hazelnuts lead in the numbers in this category, whose main markets are concentrated in Germany, France, Brazil and the Netherlands.
Frozen products
Regarding the volumes exported by country in tons during the period from January to April of this year, in relation to frozen products, the United States leads the surveys concentrating 51,5% of these exports. It is followed in turn by the Netherlands with 18,63%, China with 5,86% and Germany with 4,66%
