USA US: Cranberry harvest will soon end in the northwest

The cranberry harvest is coming to an end in the Pacific Northwest and producers expect that the latest harvesting will soon be over. The supply will continue to move in the coming weeks and it is likely that prices for good quality fruit will increase.

«In the northwest the blueberries are going to end soon due to the heat»explains Jeff Malensky of Oregon Berry Packing. «Without a doubt, we are in the last part of the season». Supply is scarce and will continue to decline as the harvest comes to an end.

Given the shortage of supply, prices have been high. The August 23, a container box of 550 milliliters of medium and large blueberries from Oregon and Washington cost between 22 and 27 dollars. However, not all fruit has good prices.

«There is a lot of fruit in storage that the market is selling», adds Malensky. «There is not much fruit left to pick, so good quality fruit pays better. If it is not of good quality, the market does not improve much because you can sell fruit from what is stored; "High quality fruit almost has a separate market.".
