Spain: Huelva is the province with the highest growth in exports from Andalusia
The province of Huelva, the main blueberry producing area in Spain, reached 1.244 million euros in fruit and vegetables exported during January to October 2021. Andalusia, the independent community of which Huelva is a part, generates two out of every five euros of Spain's fruit and vegetable exports. During the mentioned period, it exported 5.002 million euros, a sales record since records were kept (1995), increasing by 3.8% compared to the period in 2020.
In the prosperous region, the province of Almería leads the income from exports, generating 50% of the total reached by Andalusia. After Almería and Huelva, the provinces that sold the most abroad were Málaga, Granada, Cádiz, Córdoba and Jaén.
The products that were exported the most in the region of Andalusia were Peppers (632 million) and strawberries (541 million), whose sales grew by 17.5%, the largest increase within the 10 best-selling agro-industrial products in the region. Tomatoes, cucumber, raspberries, avocados, courgettes and watermelons complete the list.
Blueberries had mixed results during the period from January to October 2021. Blueberries and bilberries, ninth in the ranking, were exported for a total of 165 million euros, decreasing sales by 16.3% compared to the 2020 period. Reds, who complete the top ten, sold 120 million euros, growing only 0.8%.
However, the surprise was the variety of large lingonberries that exported a total value of 73 million euros, 57 times more than during 2020.
Andalusia's main markets were Germany (1.534 million euros), France (844 million), the United Kingdom (710 million), the Netherlands (494 million) and Italy (228 million). It also highlights the growth of exports to other European countries such as Hungary, which increased by 119%, Ireland (32.8%), Slovakia (37.2%), and Norway (29.2%).
