The strong demand for red fruits increases Planasa's sales in 2021

The new varieties of berries, the strong demand for plants and the investments in the nursery operation drive the company's results.

Spain's Planasa Group reported 19 percent sales growth in 2021 thanks to the introduction of new blueberry and blackberry varieties and increased demand for strawberry and raspberry plants in the United States.

Geographically, 85 percent of the company's sales were obtained outside of Spain, which reflects the importance of Planasa's internationalization strategy. The Americas region accounted for more than 45 percent of sales.

“Planasa's record annual performance reflects the continued growth in demand in the berry market, despite the agricultural sector facing a difficult international environment,” said CEO Michael Brinkmann.

"Our annualized recurring revenue demonstrates the value of our continued growth and Planasa's commitment to innovation and sustainability."

Looking ahead, the company said it plans to introduce new strawberry varieties in key markets and strengthen technical support to help customers get the most out of their varieties, particularly in blueberries.

“Planasa employees, suppliers and partners are working hard to address all these challenges. We are proud to serve and support farmers with innovative plant varieties,” said Brinkmann.
