Morocco intensifies its agricultural sales to the EU while Spanish ones are reduced
The Community imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from Morocco grew by 9% in volume during the first half of this year, totaling 1.021.743 tons. In value imports grew by 21% totaling 1.563 million euros.
At this time, Morocco exported to Spain 6% more in volume and 15% more in value, up to 654 million.
In both cases, the products that Morocco introduces both in Spain and in the EU coincide with the Spanish agricultural campaigns: tomatoes, peppers, beans and zucchini in vegetables, and in fruits raspberries, blueberries, watermelons and avocados.
En United Kingdom, imports from Morocco in the first half grew by 10%, amounting to 179.074 tons. Tomato shipments grew strongly (+15%), with 74.519 tons, displacing the Spanish sector as the leading supplier, and red fruit shipments with 27.851 tons (+33%).
For the employers of Spanish producers and exporters, Fepex, the behavior of Moroccan exports in a period in which Spanish exports fell by 5,4%, shows the urgency of apply a policy to improve competitiveness, which requires urgent measures in different areas, mainly in the field of innovative investments and plant protection.
