New packaging ready for recycling is the new proposal even for berries

One of the American pioneer of clamshells for berries in the eighties, is now launching a new line of ecological packaging called ReadyCycle, in context with the recently passed Earth Day.

The sales and marketing director of Sambrailo Packaging, Juana Ramírez, told Portalfruticola.com that the new line is totally recyclable, versatile and marketable, and that it had been developed to encourage the industry to use ecological packaging.

"Many people have argued about this packaging with a passion to escape plastic, and this option gives them that", he pointed.

The representative pointed out that a plastic alternative for this particular line would not be offered to maintain the totally recyclable aspects and the general objectives.

"We decided that we will go completely through corrugated cardboard because it is an easy way to recycle a product, within an existing recycling stream that is established in the United States."He said.

"We believe that this could be a paradigm shift in the industry, so we wanted to give it a chance".

Ramírez pointed out that when paper labels are applied like most of the existing adhesives to plastic casings, this forces some recyclers to reject them. ReadyCycle will avoid this problem completely by printing directly on the packaging with water soluble inks.

"You have a product in which you are providing all your information, inside and outside, and you have unlimited options for printing"He assured.

"It really depends on the creativity of who is reading this, who wants to try it and the producer-exporter who wants to market the product to a different consumer base that is passionate about its impact on the environment".

The new packaging can be used in a wide variety of products, including berries, tomatoes and peppers, and the company also intends to use it with mangoes.

Ramírez stressed that, while the process of creating prototypes and production lines for plastic clamshell was timely and expensive, working with paper materials changed all that.

"The good thing about printing capabilities is that you can do promotional marketing campaigns directly on the packaging with a quick spin".

Ramírez also explained that Sambrailo Packaging had been in the industry for 94 years, and was excited to offer another option to its customers.

"We have lived through all phases of packaging of berries, including green mesh baskets, to clamshell, which revolutionized the industry. The clamshell have become a commodity and we feel it is our time to continue innovating and offer the next packaging solution for the industry".

"Our world has changed a lot, so let's give back something that is important for consumers who are looking for a conscious alternative to the earth. So let's go forward and see where it takes us".
