Automation as a lever for transformation and growth in the blueberry industry

Blueberry consumption continues to grow, especially in the USA and Europe, making it a market with great potential. If we add to this increase in demand the consequent increase in production, professionalization and the demand for the quality of the fruit, we find ourselves with a prevailing need for blueberry processing centers to automate their procedures in order to increase their productive capacity. and thus meet market demand.

This very propitious context to make the blueberry industry grow exponentially has several brakes. On the one hand, the instability of the market, especially in countries with the top ranking of producers of this fruit such as Peru, on which we do not have the capacity to influence directly. On the other hand, the labor shortage in the industry at a global level suffered by all marketers, which we do have a great capacity to solve with automation.

In this context of high demand and shortage of manpower, MAF RODA offers technological automation solutions that cover this double need. A technology of great precision and reliability that allows to increase the productive capacity, the efficiency and the homogenization in the quality of the final product by automating processes. In the case of blueberries, the heart of the installation is made up of the Berryway calibrator and the Berryscan G7 electronic quality system.

Berryway and Berryscan G7, maximum precision and reliability

These two technologies that offer great precision and gentle treatment of the fruit are the result of the innovative work of the MAF RODA Group.

The great advantage offered by this French multinational is the care of the fruit in the process. Its new BERRYWAY calibrator, designed for minimal impact and smooth transitions, manages to minimize blows and preserve the bloom, maintaining the image of freshness in the final product.

The combination with the external BERRYSCAN and internal INSIGHT analysis systems achieve great precision in the detection of defects and definition of the overall quality of the fruit to guarantee a homogeneous taste experience for consumers. These two electronic grading systems with multispectral cameras are capable of analyzing a wide range of defects, such as fresh wounds, softness or damage by insects or firmness, and even the sugar levels (BRIX) of each of the fruits.

This great advance translates into a higher quality packaged fruit. The producer manages to offer the final consumer a more premium product on the shelf and, therefore, the possibility of positioning his product at a higher price level.

However, automation goes beyond calibration and electronic quality systems. The MAF RODA Group also offers packaging solutions that comply with the new regulations for the elimination of plastic. One example is its multi-format basket, cardboard or glass box fillers and weighers that allow warehouses to adapt to demand quickly and easily.

Currently, clients from all over the world, such as Mexico, Spain, the United States, South Africa, Romania, Morocco, the Netherlands, China or Peru, have successfully tested this technology. A solution for blueberry traders that perfectly adapts to the needs of each customer and blueberry variety.
