Baby Blues and Columbia Giant: two new varieties of berry that promise to be a help to farmers and traders

The new varieties of blueberry and blackberry They were developed in order to have an easier harvest and consumption.
Scientists in the United States developed two new varieties of berries, which will be perfectly located, product of the novelty in their sizes: Cranberry Baby Blues and Blackberry Columbia Giant.
This initiative corresponds to the work of geneticist Chad Finn of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and his team from the Horticultural Crops Research Unit in Corvallis, Oregon.
The cranberry Baby Blues It was launched during the commemoration of exactly one century ago, at 1916, of the first commercially grown high-blueberry crop. It comes from a high performance mechanized harvest. As it is a very small fruit they say that it is very suitable for markets that require small sizes of fruit. According to the scientists, this variety should offer farmers an alternative to tall blueberry Rubel, which is slow growing.
The scientists also developed a new default called Columbia Giant. It consists of a sweet fruit without punctures, high quality and performance, which can be harvested mechanized. Due to its extremely large size, this variety was sold mostly in the fresh market.
The Columbia Giant mulberry and the Baby Blues cranberry were developed under the same scientific program, in cooperation with the Oregon State University's Agricultural Experiment Station.
