In the framework of the XXVI International Seminar on Blueberries Mexico 2023 was developed Technical Commercial Tour of Mexico which toured the south-central part of Jalisco, farms in production were visited, with varietal replacement, packaging processes and nurseries.
The main objective of this activity was to learn about the reality of Mexican berry cultivation in situ and to share experiences and information with various stakeholders, in addition to learning about the different management techniques and the advances and innovations that have been developed in the country.
This tour was attended by international specialists and speakers, including the participation of the President of the Moroccan Association of Red Fruit Producers, who found many similarities in the production of Mexico and Morocco, and its strategic advantage with the main export market for blueberries, which is just a few hours away, the USA for Mexico and Europe for Morocco.
The technical tour visited areas in central-southern Jalisco, such as Guadalajara, Ciudad Guzmán and Tala, and its purpose was to bring first-hand the processes and techniques used in Mexico to produce a product with export quality to such a demanding market.
The cultivation of berries continues to grow rapidly due to the high global demand for their healthy food qualities.
Blueberries in Mexico are characterized by indoor or outdoor production. A large number of varieties are grown, both conventionally and organically, and their plantations are developed both in soil and in pots – substrates.
