The company now has a presence not only in Chile, but also, and more significantly, in Peru, specifically in the Trujillo region, where they invested US$60 million in a 400-hectare property, which could be expanded in the future. The land has been planted with blueberries, a fruit with numerous health benefits and diverse markets, including China, the United States, and Europe.

Empresas Penta is undergoing significant consolidation in the agricultural sector. According to its president, Fabio Valdés, the company now has a presence not only in Chile, but also, and with greater force, in Peru, specifically in the department of Trujillo, where they invested US$60 million in a 400-hectare property, which could be expanded in the future.

The hectares have been planted with blueberriesThis fruit offers numerous health benefits and boasts diverse markets, including China, the United States, and Europe. Another advantage is its high yield per hectare, two to three times that of cherries, and its price can also be double that of cherries. “It’s a very profitable business,” says Fabio Valdés, president of Empresas Penta.

Meanwhile, in Chile, Empresas Penta has consolidated its operations in the agribusiness sector, based on growth and diversification, through its subsidiary Agrícola Mercedario. The company cultivates 104 hectares of Murcott mandarins in Salamanca (Coquimbo Region) and maintains more than 650 hectares of cherry orchards in the Maule and O'Higgins Regions, creating a production platform geared towards both local and international markets.

Empresas Penta's entry into the agricultural sector in 2006 marked the beginning of its expansion in the industry, starting with the cultivation of table grapes and avocados, and later broadening its focus to include cherry production. In parallel, infrastructure and process development has been a central component of its strategy, with investments aimed at integrating key stages of the value chain and strengthening competitiveness.

Among the operational pillars is the creation of Packing Merquén SpA, operated through its parent company, Empresas Penta. This agro-industrial plant, located in Paine, has been described as a key element in modernizing packaging and storage processes, incorporating technology aimed at improving the quality of products destined for both the local market and export, which demands high-level standards.

Modern packing facilities in the Maule and Metropolitan regions

This capacity is complemented by investments in modern packing facilities in the Maule and Metropolitan regions, which have strengthened vertical integration and control of costs and resources, along with the development of new processing lines, especially for cherries and nuts, incorporating cold storage and packaging innovations to optimize freshness.

In terms of production base, the acquisition and management of farms such as Panguesillo, El Boldal, Rauquén, and Pencahue represent part of the growth of the agribusiness. This platform has helped consolidate the group's role as an exporter, enabling it to process and export both its own production and that of third parties, expanding its reach and customer base in strategic markets.

With Peru and Chile, Empresas Penta seeks to further strengthen its position in the crop and agro-industrial processing sector, supported by a long-term vision, investments in technology and infrastructure, and an operational integration strategy.

With its expansion into the agribusiness sector, Empresas Penta now operates in six strategic areas of the economy. Among these, the real estate sector stands out, with the company developing residential and commercial projects in both Chile and the United States. One of its most notable Chilean projects is the five-star Hotel Miramar in Viña del Mar. In the United States, the company has distinguished itself with real estate projects in Massachusetts, Florida, Arizona, and Texas, where Empresas Penta has partnered with strategic stakeholders such as investment funds and local businesses.

Meanwhile, in the area of infrastructure, Empresas Penta's subsidiary "Las Américas" has executed emblematic projects since 1992, and where today it participates in "Variante Melipilla" and "Autopista Interportuaria".

In addition to traditional sectors, Empresas Penta has expanded its presence into education, healthcare, and finance over the decades. Its collaboration with Universidad del Desarrollo, of which it was a founding member, has resulted in the training of highly skilled professionals. Simultaneously, its foray into financial services and healthcare projects demonstrates a comprehensive vision focused on meeting the population's essential needs.
