Western and Central Europe ended 2025 as the largest importing region of blueberries The IBO Global Blueberry Report 2026 indicates that its growth once again outpaced that of North America, continuing the expansion observed in recent years.

Imports reached 456.580 tons, compared to 391.480 tons in 2024, an increase of 16,6%. For reference, the combined imports of the United States and Canada reached 403.590 tons in 2025, nearly 53.000 tons less than the volume imported by Western and Central Europe.

The regional comparison does not alter the United States' leading position as an importing country. With 325.310 tons, it accounted for 29% of the global volume and remained well ahead of any other individual market.

Europe expands its import scale

The volume imported by Western and Central Europe has been growing strongly since 2023. That year it registered 295.990 tons; in 2024 it increased to 391.480 tons and in 2025 it reached 456.580 tons. In two years, the flow increased by more than 160.000 tons.

The Netherlands accounted for the largest volume in the subregion, with 174.540 tons in 2025, compared to 143.400 tons the previous year, in line with its role as an entry and redistribution platform for blueberries towards other European markets. Because of this function, the volumes recorded by the country should not be interpreted directly as domestic consumption.

The United Kingdom also increased its imports, from 71.800 to 82.630 tons, a rise of nearly 15%. This expansion also extended to smaller markets: the report highlights a 42% growth in Scandinavia, where several countries are among the European destinations with the highest average prices paid per kilogram.

South America leads in the origins of supply

In 2025, South America was the main regional source of imports to Western and Central Europe, with 162.290 tons, compared to 128.790 tons in 2024. The difference represents an increase of approximately 26%.

This volume exceeded the 126.650 tons originating from Western and Central Europe itself and the 124.220 tons from Southern Europe and North Africa, the other two major supply blocs recorded by the report. The 2025 result reinforces a trend already observed in European flows: a higher import volume and an increasing share of diverse origins in its supply. With 456.580 tons, Western and Central Europe led the importing regions considered by the IBO.
