Peru exported around 118 thousand tons of fresh blueberries in the 2019/2020 campaign
In the August 2019 / March 2020 campaign, our country exported around 118 thousand tons of fresh blueberries, which represented an increase of 47.5% compared to the 80 thousand tons dispatched in the previous campaign (2018/2019).
This was reported by the president of the consultancy Inform @ ction, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, who indicated that in the current campaign (which has just ended) shipments of fresh blueberries by Peru reached US $ 764.109.663, showing a growth of 27.4% compared to about US $ 600 million reached in the 2018/2019 campaign.
He indicated that the characteristic of the blueberry industry in Peru is that it registers explosive growth year after year. The blueberry is the second crop of agro-export to generate more foreign currency to the country (after the table grape).
"Let us not be surprised that blueberry becomes the main agricultural export crop in Peru. In the 2019/2020 campaign, shipments of table grapes by Peru touched close to US $ 1.000 billion, but the growth rate of blueberries is higher, ”he said.
Main destinations and producing regions
Cillóniz stated that in the 2019/2020 campaign, the United States was the main destination for fresh blueberries from Peru, acquiring 64.313.662 kilos, representing 54.5% of the total. The Netherlands followed with 27.951.158 kilos, the United Kingdom 8.366.432 kilos, China 9.397.950 kilos, Spain, others (Canada, Hong Kong, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Brazil, Belgium, Italy, Malaysia) with 4.338.159 kilos.
Likewise, he highlighted that the main blueberry exporting regions in our country are: La Libertad, which dispatched 2019 kilos in the 2020/75.448.445 campaign, Lambayeque 21.053.863 kilos, Lima 11.868.340 kilos, Áncash 2.930.193 kilos, Ica 2.755.609 .XNUMX kilos, others (Piura, Arequipa, Moquegua, Cajamarca, Huánuco).
He highlighted the rapid evolution that the regions have registered in berry production. In this sense, he explained that La Libertad began to export blueberries in the 2012/2013 campaign, and in the 2015/2016 campaign it already shipped more than 10 thousand tons, in the 2016/2017 campaign more than 20 thousand tons, in the 2017 campaign / 2018 more than 40 thousand tons, in the 2018/2019 campaign more than 60 thousand tons.
For its part, Lambayeque began to export the fruit in the 2016/2017 campaign, in the 2018/2019 campaign it already shipped more than 8.000 tons. Lima began to export in the 2012/2013 campaign, in the 2016/2017 campaign shipments reached close to 4 thousand tons and in the 2018/2019 campaign it sent approximately 8 thousand tons.
On the other hand, Áncash began to export in the 2012/2013 campaign, in the 2016/2017 campaign it exceeded 500 thousand kilos, in the 2017/2018 campaign it achieved a million kilos, in the 2018/2019 campaign it exceeded 1.500.000 kilos . While Ica began to dispatch blueberries in the 2013/2014 campaign, in the 2016/2017 campaign it exceeded 500 thousand kilos and in the 2018/2019 campaign it sent nearly 1.300.000 kilos.

Among the main exporting companies of fresh blueberries in the 2019/2020 season, the following stand out: Camposol with 25.445.520 kilos (27.012.638 kilos shipped in the previous season), Hortifrut Peru 16.941.673 kilos (11.726.879 kilos last season) , Hortifrut TALSA 8.485.544 kilos (9.940.395 kilos in the 2018/2019 season), Agrícola Santa Azúl 5.798.361 kilos, HFE Berries Perú 5.498.346 kilos, Hass Perú 5.755.027 kilos, Agrovisión Perú 8.059.259 kilos, others (Agroberries Peru, Blueberries Peru, TAL SA, Agrícola Cerro Prieto, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta, Danper Trujillo, Vision, Agualima) 39.370.497 kilos.
