Argentina: The expansion of the Tucumán airport will benefit the cranberry
It was confirmed by the Minister of Productive Development, Juan Luis Fernández, after the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers led by the governor, Juan Manzur. The works were announced in Tucumán, a couple of weeks ago, by the Minister of Transportation of the Nation, Guillermo Dietrich and are framed within the productive requirements of the province: to have a suitable track for the export of fresh fruit, such as blueberry.
"The work has started specifically in what has to do with the north platform and taxiway," specified Fernández. The head of the production portfolio explained that "the idea is that the work takes us more than 60 days so that we have time to prepare the new blueberry campaign without inconvenience".
The remodeling of the planned airport exceeds the freight transport issues, since it will be expanded in its entirety. And in that aspect he stressed that these works are planned to face the "the next year" and that by its magnitude will affect the normal development of the traffic of line airplanes. "It is likely that we have a non-operational airport for 60 days"explained the official.
Regional economies
Fresh fruit, such as the blueberry from Tucumán, is one of the most required worldwide. Although it is not part of the basic economy, due to its short production time -from the 2003-, its cultivation, harvest and export have led, year after year, to successful campaigns.
With the expansion of the Benjamín Matienzo Airport runway, they will be able to take off twice the load - more than 100 tons - from which the ships that carry out the logistics currently transport.
