Sustainable packaging for berries

SP Soluciones Agrícolas and Indesla launch a sustainable container for red fruits and other crops.

They combine bases of corrugated cardboard or paper, 100% biodegradable, with lids of R-PET, recycled and recyclable plastic.

The combination of the technologies of both companies substantially reduces its time of manipulation and its cost.

The Huelva company SP Soluciones Agrícolas and its partner Indesla have come together to solve one of the main problems of cardboard packaging for berries. “The need for berries they are seen by consumers at the points of sale, it came into confrontation with the sustainability of the tubs and their handling ”, explains José Manuel Pecero, commercial director of SP Soluciones Agrícolas.

And the alternative is combination of a 100% biodegradable backing, made of corrugated cardboard or paper, with an R-PET lid, plastic that has already been recycled and can be recycled. The former are transformed by Strong Pack, the cardboard and paper packaging division of SP Soluciones Agrícolas, while the latter are manufactured by Indesla.

“With this synergy we not only obtain sustainable packaging, we also we manage to put an end to wasted time in handling of them and we continue to be very competitive in price ”, adds Pecero, who points out that precisely the cost and the difficulties in handling are the main drawbacks that red fruit producers see in the supply of sustainable packaging existing in the market to date.

SP Soluciones Agrícolas and Indesla will put on sale for this 2020/2021 campaign five different tubs, with capacities from 125 grams to 1 kilo, that can host, in addition to blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, stone fruits, tomatoes or tomatoes cherry.
