Spain: Agriculture was the only one that created net employment in the first quarter of 2021

The activity of Agriculture (agricultural, livestock, forestry, hunting, fishing) was the only one, among the large activities of the Spanish economy, which grew in employed persons during the first quarter of 2021, according to the Active Population Survey (EPA) for this period.

Labor figures

At a general level, employees fell by 0,71% and by 137.500 people compared to the last quarter of last year and by 2,41% and 474.500 people compared to the first quarter of that time, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE) , leaving 19.206.800 employees.

Work force

In the primary sector, the number of busy As of March 31, it was 985.500 people, 1,96% and 18.900 more than in the last quarter of 2020 and 3,85% and 36.500 more employees than in the first three months of last year.

Agrarian Sector

At the same time, the number of stopped in the agricultural sector it also increased by 1,7% growing between January and March and by 3.100 unemployed, to add 187.600 unemployed people, while in relation to a year earlier the rise was more pronounced, reaching 14,18 % and 23.300 more unemployed.

Thus, with these data, the number of assets in Agriculture it grew by 1,96% and by 18.900 people at the end of the first quarter of 2021, to add 985.500, as well as in relation to a year before, with 3,85% and some 36.500 more active persons.
