Nutrition and genetics:

Variety-directed nutrition: sufficiency ranges for new blueberry genetics at Lima 2026

Juan Hirzel will review needs and sufficiency ranges by variety to guide nutritional decisions with greater precision, while María del Carmen Sala will present nutritional control tools and salinity in blueberry production in pots.

The expansion of new genetics is driving a more precise technical standard in the blueberryVarieties with different vigor, architecture, and productive behavior require nutritional strategies tailored to their characteristics. At Lima 2026, this topic will be explored in the talk on Juan Hirzel (Wednesday 11, 15:20–16:10), focused on variety-directed nutrition, needs and sufficiency ranges to guide decisions in real production conditions.

On Thursday the 12th, this approach will be complemented by the session of María del Carmen Sala (09:40–10:30), focused on nutrition and salinity control tools in potted plant production. Together, both sessions will allow us to address nutrition as a technical decision-making system that integrates plant material, monitoring, and type of production system.

Variety defines requirements and increases the accuracy of nutritional criteria

Juan Hirzel's session will delve into how nutrition is tailored to genetics. blueberryincorporating references that allow for a more accurate interpretation of nutritional status according to variety. Within this framework, the review of sufficiency ranges will provide a comparative basis for assessing needs and guiding adjustments with consistent criteria.

This approach will be especially useful for teams working with different varieties or incorporating new genetics. Having more specific references strengthens technical prioritization and streamlines decision-making in scenarios where varietal diversity increases management demands.

Nutrition as the foundation of performance, stability, and condition

Variety-directed nutrition will also be addressed in terms of its impact on performance: productivity, crop stability, and condition-related attributes. The focus will be on how accurately assessing needs and ensuring sufficiency improves the quality of decisions and contributes to more consistent results over time.

In practice, this approach promotes more strategic nutritional management: interpreting information, adjusting criteria, and making technically sound decisions, aligned with the goal of sustaining performance and quality in a more competitive environment.

Nutritional control and salinity in pots: tools for intensive systems

María del Carmen Sala's session will offer an applied perspective on blueberry production in pots, where nutrition and salinity are managed with high precision. In intensive systems, the availability, balance, and management of the root environment directly impact yield, making monitoring and control crucial.

This talk will introduce tools and monitoring criteria that complement variety-specific nutrition. The goal is to integrate nutritional decisions with salinity control and production stability, taking a perspective consistent with the current technical demands of the crop.
