AGAP: AGROFEST consolidates its position as the flagship event for Peruvian agriculture, promoting development, competitiveness, and sustainability.

In its fourth edition, AGROFEST reaffirms its commitment to an agricultural industry that embraces innovation, inclusion, and sustainable transformation. The president of AGAP emphasized that, although Peru already competes with excellence in the international market, the challenge now is to build a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient agricultural industry.

Lima, June 11, 2025.–  AGROFEST It has established itself as the flagship event for the Peruvian agricultural sector, positioning itself as the main meeting place for promoting modern, competitive, and sustainable agriculture. This was stated by the president of the Association of Agricultural Producers' Guilds of Peru (AGAP), Gabriel Amaro, during the opening ceremony of the event that brings together leaders, national and international specialists, businesspeople, and producers from across the country.

"In this edition, AGAP and our associated associations reaffirm our commitment to an agricultural sector that embraces innovation, sustainability, inclusion, and transformation. Because we believe that the future of agriculture is built through action, vision, and collective will," he stated.

Amaro noted that, while Peru has already demonstrated that it can compete with other agricultural exporting nations, sending agricultural products to more than 140 countries, we still need to be "more sustainable, efficient, and resilient," which "is not achieved with good intentions alone," but with "sound political decisions, strategic investment, public-private dialogue, technology, science, and the development of young talent."

In this context, he said that the current AGROFEST (which takes place from June 11 to 14 in La Videna, San Luis district) seeks to achieve these objectives. "These days we will hear from more than 100 national and international specialists. We will address topics that are already redefining agriculture: artificial intelligence, the circular economy, climate change, promoting bio-entrepreneurship, modernization of small-scale agriculture, and agri-food research," he noted. But the most important thing, he emphasized, is that these conversations translate into "proposals, regulations, concrete alliances, and, above all, a real impact for producers across the country."

Recognition of Peru's agricultural wealth

In turn, the representative of the FAO Peru, Mariana EscobarHe stated that AGROFEST is a fundamental space that recognizes the richness of national agriculture and the outstanding work of millions of people. "Agriculture is a substantial part of the country's economic development," he noted.

He said that in recent years, a great deal of technology has been incorporated into the sector, in line with the market and climate change. However, he said this technology must also be transferred "to those who are behind the economic gap in the sector."

“Peru has enormous food value for the world, and it should provide significant returns for the country. We must transform agri-food systems toward more sustainable and efficient models to create healthy and long-lasting food. This will only be possible through partnerships between the public and private sectors, international organizations, and civil society,” said Mariana Escobar.

In turn, the head of the Economic and Commercial Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Peru, Olivier Coupleux, considered AGROFEST to be an exceptional opportunity to promote the Peruvian agri-food sector, in a country where agriculture and food are fundamental elements in the lives of its citizens, rooted in rich traditions.

"If there's a way to define Peruvian agriculture, I would say it's a chain of abundance that has produced vegetables, coffee, and cocoa for many years. The big difference when looking at the agri-food sector today is that Peru supplies the world with its high-quality agricultural products. Therefore, it's no surprise that Peru has established itself as the third-largest supplier of fruit to the EU," he stated.

Finally, the head of Agricultural markets of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), Luis Llanos, He said that his sector supports any initiative that benefits the consolidation of the agricultural sector.

In this context, he reported that they are working to create a more agile institution to adapt to the dynamics of a strategic sector such as agriculture.
