Argentina: INTA begins with the alarm service for frost control

So far, more than 100 producers have signed up to receive the information that INTA San Pedro provides on nights when there is a probability of frost occurring. «At the end of the winter rest, the peach and blueberry plants become susceptible to being affected by the late frosts that occur in the area. This sensitivity increases as the phenological stage of these fruit trees progresses, until reaching the critical point of fresh fruit set«explains Carlos Zanek, head of the Agrometeorology area at INTA San Pedro.

To avoid their negative effects, producers use different defense methods and, for them to be more efficient, the INTA service accompanies at night when frosts can occur, providing data inherent to these climatic adversities.

In the current edition, the broadcast will be made through WhatsApp, text messages, Twitter and online information. In this way producers can compare INTA's data with those in their field and make the decision to implement the control mechanism. The service covers only the territory occupied by the parties of San Nicolás, Ramallo, San Pedro, Baradero and Zárate, in the province of Buenos Aires.
