Chile: The SAG decrees quarantine in the urban area of La Serena due to the presence of fruit fly
The SAG decreed quarantine in the urban area of La Serena for the finding of eight adult specimens and seven larval foci of a fly that eats the fruit. The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) continues the application of pesticides so that the insect does not reach rural areas and also deployed a campaign following the detection of this species in the capital of the Coquimbo Region.
In this way, the place where the specimens were found is under observation, which includes a radius of 7,2 kilometers around the focus, in order that the specimen is not transferred to agricultural areas of the region.
The regional director of the SAG, Jorge Fernández, pointed out in statements that Radio Cooperativa reproduces, that "It was applied with pesticide in the primary focus, that is, under the canopy of the trees, we began to check the traps installed during the weekend and we took a total of eight adult specimens captured in the traps«.
For its part, the Seremi de Agricultura de Coquimbo, Diego Peralta, assured that all the necessary measures are being taken so that the producers can continue exporting their fruit. It should be noted that most of the exports have already finished their season, but there is still a grape that will leave the port of Coquimbo mainly destined for China.
