The US and Europe are gaining ground in the Peruvian blueberry market against China
By: Natalia Rubio Iversen
Peruvian exports of blueberries Production reached 53.465 tons by week 32 of the 2026/27 campaign, 74% more than in the same period of the previous season. Despite the significant year-on-year increase, the cumulative total is practically in line with Proarándanos' August projection.
The difference lies in the destination of that fruit. The United States and Europe currently account for about 68% of shipments, compared to approximately 52% at this same time in 2025/26. China is following the opposite trend: a year ago it accounted for about a third of the total, and today it represents 15%.

Rather than an unexpected increase in supply, the data thus show a different distribution of export volume among the main markets.
China loses ground as the campaign advances
Through week 32, Peru has shipped 7.827 tons of blueberries to China, 20% less than in the same period of 2025/26. The gap widened in recent weeks: between weeks 30 and 32, shipments to that market remained below those recorded in the same periods of the previous campaign.
The decline significantly alters China's weight within shipments of blueberries Peruvians. In the same period last season, it was practically neck and neck with the United States for first place among destinations; this season it occupies third place, behind the US market and Europe.
The report identifies changes in shipments, but not their causes. Therefore, the drop in volume cannot be interpreted solely as lower Chinese demand or a structural change in that market.

The United States and Europe account for most of the increase.
The contrast is especially marked in the United States, which has seen a 138% increase and accounts for 43% of Peruvian exports. Europe, meanwhile, has grown by 108% and reached a 25% share.
The magnitude of the change is best appreciated by looking at the campaign's net growth: almost nine out of every ten additional tons of blueberries Exports from Peru compared to the same point in 2025/26 correspond to the largest volume sent to the United States and Europe.
These two markets thus explain a large part of the new composition of the firms. While a year ago they accounted for about half of the total, they now represent more than two-thirds.
The snapshot for week 32 is still incomplete and may change as the campaign progresses toward its peak. However, the contrast is already clear: Peru is exporting considerably more. blueberries than a year ago, but that growth is reaching its main markets in different proportions.
The coming weeks will show whether China regains market share or whether the greater weight of the United States and Europe remains as the season progresses.
