Control and homogeneity of the production, main advantages of hydroponics in berries

The method achieves homogeneous conditions for the entire plantation, which has an impact on equal sizes and greater profitability, experts say

The conditions of the soils in hectares and hectares of land are never homogeneous and in some of them there are good soil conditions but not in others. This is one of the main reasons that justifies, according to the experts of the company of the green sector, Grupo Projar, the investment for the producers in the hydroponic system for fruits such as berries.

The company, which has been working with this method for 5 for years and advising farmers, emphasizes that this system achieves full control of many parameters within the production such as supplies of nutrients, water or moisture that impact on equal calibers in the fruits. This means that all the production will have the same calibres acceptable by the market and translates into greater profitability for the farmer.

So that "We can be talking about a return on investment that in some cases occurs after two years, although everything depends on the price window to which the farmer is directed", explains the product manager of Grupo Projar, Paco López.

Drainage control

In this same sense, hydroponics increases production per unit area, especially in the first years of cultivation. In addition, the crop is independent of soil conditions which allows locating a plantation in any area.

This last aspect allows farmers to diversify in several countries, depending on the climate of each zone, and achieve a constant production throughout the year of a fruit that only grows with a certain climate. In addition, red fruits are especially sensitive to excess moisture, so with hydroponics, greater control of their drainage is achieved.

Hydroponics is a method used to grow plants using substrates. The composition of the substrates Projar uses for cranberry crops is designed to achieve a balance between drainage and nutrition.

Necessary technical advice

The product manager of Grupo Projar, Paco López highlights how "It is a farming method for which the farmer must be well advised, since its implementation and exploitation requires specific technical knowledge".

In this sense, Grupo Projar has designed three steps that begin with the study by their technicians in each case to offer a solution to the client to their needs. A second phase of implementation in which the project is launched and the products are supplied and a third where the production is monitored and the vegetative development of the plant is checked.
