Two new varieties of blueberries for Italy

In this very particular year, from many points of view, the Italian company Molari Berries & Breeding has decided not to stop, but to look forward with renewed enthusiasm and to continue the excellent work done by Gilberto Molari in recent years.

The company, now managed by his sons Matteo and Luca, together with long-time collaborators such as Alessandro Gualandi and Monia Dall'Ara, has focused its efforts on expanding the offer. Jacopo Giuliani has also recently joined the company, who, as a nursery assistant, will support Gualandi in the technical and agronomic management of the company.

“Molari is not just synonymous with raspberries, although our main varieties are already grown all over the world and the raspberry breeding project is at the heart of our activities,” says Matteo. "Molari also means years and years of specialization in the entire panorama of berries. This is the right time to think about new plantings for the upcoming season, and for this reason, today we want to talk about blueberries. Thanks to the exclusive association with the British company Global Plant Genetics Ltd, we are able to multiply and sell two exciting novelties in the blueberry category, both developed within the Oregon Blueberry Farms and Nursery program: Titanium® and MegasBlue®”.

Titanium® is an early maturing variety (approximately 1 week earlier than Draper). The plant is erect and compact. Flowering generally begins in early April and lasts until the end of the month, while harvest begins in the first week of July and ends in 3 to 4 weeks. The fruit is very consistent, resistant to handling, large (17-20 mm) and light blue in color, with optimal flowering.

MegasBlue® is a mid-season variety, like Bluecrop, but with a more concentrated harvest period. The plant is semi-compact and vigorous, and the harvest begins in the third week of July. Its fruits are large, resistant to handling and very consistent.

These are two varieties that clearly improve on the more classic ones that have been on the market for years and, according to the company, Molari has different formats, to be able to offer the ideal plant according to the needs of each client.
