"In Mexico you have to do a lot of media outreach"

Miguel Valero is agronomist and corporate director of agribusiness at AGQ Labs and Technological Services, one of the organizing companies of the 4 ° International Seminar, "Cranberry cultivation in Mexico: Technical analysis, productive management and commercial development", carried out by 29 and 30 of June in Terraza Andares Guadalajara, Mexico.

We talked with him to know his evaluation of the event.

- According to you, what was the main factor to explain the success of attending the meeting?

- The topic is of interest to berry producers and potential investors. Together with this, the quality of the speakers and the diversity of the content addressed in the program have made the call a successful claim.

- And in that same reading, what was the initial main obstacle, if there was one ...

- Mexico is a charming country, but very large, and with a lot of dispersion. Doing a seminar in a big city demanding assistance from people from three states, having to spend a night in Guadalajara, and people without the culture of participating in seminars and forums regularly, was a great handicap.

- According to our observation, the vast majority of those who attended were producers. What factor can explain this phenomenon.

- They were producers who, although they produce berries, not all are producers of blueberries. The crop is in the hands of a few companies and their producers, with which they are the main stakeholders. Large companies have also opted to involve them and put them in the training channel. Better producers, better product, better quality… everyone is happy.

- As a last thought, what lessons or evaluation does the Guadalajara seminar leave for you?

- In Mexico you have to do a lot of media coverage. Make a more targeted and personalized call. It is necessary to improve the prices to the sponsors. Achieve a greater presence in the media and specialized magazines, even in local newspapers, and work more on the media in the rural environment of the producer.

It should be pointed out that this first International Seminar that AGQ and Blueberries Consulting did in Mexico, was attended by more than three hundred people and a score of companies, which means a resounding success, and that in its two days were treated the most varied topics related to the development of the Mexican and Latin American cranberry industry in general, in which all the attendees participated actively. According to the testimonies collected during the development of the event and in an online survey carried out subsequently, the great majority valued the contents and the quality of the exhibitors first and almost all of them were pronounced because they are repeated next year.
