Peruvian exports of blueberries will grow more than 12% per year until the 2021

The Peruvian exports of blueberries will have a continuous growth higher than 12% for the next four years, due to a greater demand of the main markets of destination and to the greater yield of the production, warned the Institute of Investigation and Development of Foreign Trade (Idexcam), of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima.

"It is certain that our principals markets like the United States, Hong Kong, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Union demand more of this product in the coming years ", indicated the executive director of the Idexcam, Carlos Posada.

According to Posada, Peruvian blueberries are recognized abroad as healthy, a situation that will be exploited by the exporters that already have enough production to face an increase in demand.

The main destination market of the product is The United States, which represented 54% of the total exported by the Andean country in 2016.

In the last two years, exports of Peruvian blueberries registered high levels of growth, Posada said. "In 2014 blueberry shipments amounted to only 30 million dollars but in the 2016 the exported value amounted to 242 million dollars, representing an average annual growth of 186%"He said.

For Posada, "the commercial agreements with the United States and the EFTA block, which allows the entry of products with a release to 100%, they are an opportunity to increase the presence in those destinations ".
