The main reason for the price increase is the decrease in import volume.

Chinese market demand for frozen blueberries is increasing, as is the price

April and May are usually the months when the supply volume of frozen blueberries runs out and the new harvest has not yet started. This year the shortage was already noticeable in March. Domestic demand is likely to grow much stronger next year than in recent years.

Manager Zhang regularly deals in frozen blueberries. According to manager Zhang, price fluctuations in this market have shown a general downward trend in recent years. Even when traders build up stocks for the second half of the season, the price is still flat. There is no point in paying storage fees or taking out loans, sales conditions are better during the production season. That's why most frozen blueberry dealers don't store their stock until this late in the season.

The market was still doing well a few years ago. The supply volume of frozen blueberries was limited and the profit margin was large. So the merchants didn't care if they sold at the beginning or the end of the season. Now the profit margin is very low and the price is unstable, so traders try to sell as soon as possible. Traders who can wait until this late in the season generally hope for a better price.

Price fluctuations in the frozen blueberry market, like in other frozen fruit markets, are not large and generally show a downward trend. Demand remains fairly stable. More importantly, farmers lose money when they sell to blueberry processing factories. Only when they can't sell their fresh blueberries do they process them into frozen blueberries. There is a lack of activity in this industry. And frozen blueberries are usually made from substandard blueberries.

Import of frozen blueberries

Domestic demand for frozen blueberries has not increased in recent years. On the contrary, the demand seems to decrease. However, the import volume has also decreased. The prices of Chilean farmed blueberries and wild Chilean blueberries have risen and their production volumes have decreased. In addition, the import recently suffered some setbacks. That is why the import volume of frozen blueberries has drastically reduced.

Blueberry processing factories in China have now turned their attention to domestic blueberries. They assumed that the volume of demand for frozen blueberries was growing and that the price would rise. However, the total volume of demand is not growing. By contrast, overall demand is falling. However, the import volume is shrinking even faster and the demand for imported blueberries is being transferred to domestic blueberries. And that is why the demand for domestic blueberries is rising, and so is the price.
