New ideas in packaging tomatoes and berries

Freshseal, the most recent packaging format for tomatoes, "Berries" and fresh products is now available in the US United States, Canada and Mexico. Developed jointly by an Anglo-Canadian association, this technology offers the market of fresh agricultural products a quick and easy way to change to the trays and trays heat-sealed from the containers "Clamshell" o "Flow-pack". The heat-sealed containers use less material than the "clamshell" and take better advantage of the space to stack and transport them, which translates into greater savings. They also offer the possibility of using the packaging to create a display on the shelves.

Freshseal includes the offer of baskets or trays, film and a traysealer machine to facilitate a smooth transition to the new packaging format.

Because of the versatility of available packaging, suppliers of fresh agricultural products can quickly and easily create a striking package with colorful trays of custom shapes and pre-printed films with their banner. The options for the different tray materials are plastic, cardboard, aluminum and convertible cardboard in compost. The films can be pre-printed with signs and images and can also be offered in resealable format (to improve hygiene after opening and allow the containers to be stacked in the refrigerator), as well as with microperforations that allow the products to breathe (especially with fourth-range products and modified atmosphere packaging). In addition, the expiration and sale dates can be easily printed on the film at the sealing point to further simplify the packaging process.

A key advantage of Freshseal is that all its packaging formats can be sealed with the same machine with minimal interruption of the packaging line. Changing from one type of tray or basket to another and from a printed film design to a different one can be done in a matter of minutes.

Freshseal heat sealing machines are the fastest and most energy efficient on the market today, so they produce the lowest cost per package, with several models available to adapt to the different levels of automation and production speeds of the market. All machines are completely electric and operate without the need for compressed air. For the new ones in the heat sealing, there are small machines that offer speeds up to 30 containers per minute, while in the highest range, the Revolution incorporates very innovative technology that allows to overcome all other individual line sealers with speeds up to 200 containers per minute. In addition, the Revolution offers a profile to gently transfer the baskets to the machine, which allows it to be used at high speeds with lighter or easily moveable products, such as "Berries" small or pear cherry tomatoes, without these falling out.

Packaging Automation can offer its customers a tray sealer or jar filler for a wide range of applications in the food industry, including the packaging of fresh agricultural products such as lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries and "Berries", vacuum packaging and packaging "Skins".

Complete packaging lines can be specified and installed to include decking of the trays, conveyance by tape, filling of the trays and heat sealing (including modified atmosphere installations). The packaging of aluminum trays, as well as plastic, can be adapted to all machines as standard.
