Genetic differentiation is key to success in the blueberry business, highlighted the director of Agricultural Operations of Agrovision, Juan José Gal'Lino Vargas.

He indicated that his represented focuses on premium fruit, for this they use the best varieties of blueberries. They currently have more than 20 varieties of this fruit in production, which have different traits and characteristics that allow them to satisfy the consumption experiences of their customers. They also have another 20 varieties of blueberries under protection.

He stressed that it is important to have different varieties of fruit to satisfy the demands of his customers, since each market has its preferences in terms of size, acidity, bloom, among others. In addition, it is important to have early or late varieties that allow the company to supply the markets for longer.

“It is a dynamic market and varieties are constantly emerging. Varieties that used to be the top ones are no longer the top ones, that forces us to be up to date with the preferences of the clients”, she commented.

In this sense, he said that Agrovision has an agreement with the best genetics houses in the world, obtaining premium fruits that allow them to compete worldwide. Currently, the company is part of the top 10 agro-export companies in Peru.

Agrovision currently has 1.527 hectares of blueberries, all located in Lambayeque (Olmos and Morrope). The company has proposed to exceed 300 hectares of blueberries with organic management, with different varieties.

"We would like to have more organic blueberry areas, but the cost is very high, because the soil in which we work (sandy) are mineral soils, inert, that is, they have very little organic matter, which forces us to incorporate and nourish the plants daily ", held.

He added that organic production differs by using fertilizers from biological sources and the products used to manage pests and diseases are also of organic origin (the company has organic certification). In addition, Agrovision promotes the rational use of natural resources to minimize their environmental impact by protecting the environment, water and soil.

In 2020, the company exported 850 containers of blueberries (20 tons each container). For this year, they plan to dispatch 1.300 containers, the destination markets being Europe, the United States and Asia.
