Agrícola Cayaltí is betting on blueberries in Lambayeque: What is your strategy?

This project will focus on the development of 250 new hectares of blueberries, with a planting period already scheduled.
Agrícola Cayaltí continues to consolidate its position in the agro-export sector, leaving behind its exclusive focus on sugar cane in Lambayeque. With the creation of its subsidiary Inversiones Yarabamba in February 2021, the company is preparing new projects for 2024.
New project: Agrícola del Zaña
According to its 2023 Annual Report, Agrícola Cayaltí will structure a new subsidiary called Agrícola del Zaña in 2024.
This project will focus on the development of 250 new hectares of blueberries, with a planting period scheduled between May and November 2024.
"This project is part of Agrícola Cayaltí's general plan, which seeks to optimize the available hectares with crops of high value and demand in the global market," the company claimed.
Blueberry production
Through Inversiones Yarabamba, Agrícola Cayaltí already has 300 hectares of blueberries, distributed in 200 hectares of the Sekoya Pop variety and 100 hectares of the Matías variety at the end of 2023. The company's projections indicate an increase in production, going from 400 metric tons to 3,500 metric tons of blueberries.
«A significant supply of blueberries of the Sekoya Pop variety has been achieved, recognized for its high productivity in the Zaña valley and considered a premium variety in international markets», the company added.
Current situation of Yarabamba Investments
Inversiones Yarabamba owns 2,020.42 hectares of land in Lambayeque, contributed by Agrícola Cayaltí, which owns 99.9% of its shares.
Of these areas, about 1,700 hectares are occupied by blueberry, avocado and mandarin plantations. The first production of mandarins is expected in 2025.
«The blueberry plantations and most of the avocado plantations began production in 2023, which has allowed a significant change in the turnover from fruit sales, along with a strong increase in the hiring of personnel. The other fields and plantations will begin production in 2024 and 2025," the company detailed in its Annual Report.
The growth of Agrícola Cayaltí also has a positive impact on the local economy and employment. The expansion of plantations and increased production generate job opportunities and contribute to the economic development of the Lambayeque region.
