Argentina: due to the fall in prices, exports decrease

The production of the fruit fell an 2% with respect to the 2017. Expectations are set in China, although producers expect more competitive tariffs.

Near the end of the export campaign of Argentine blueberries to overseas markets, from the sector consider that the situation worsened compared to previous years.

First, the season was not good in terms of volume, with almost 2% less production than in 2017, and 10% compared to 2016, mainly because prices collapsed throughout the campaign.

Although the expectation for the next seasons is focused on the Asian market, the producers demand competitiveness, to be up to the task, in terms of tariffs, with our main competitor, Peru.

In numbers:

-This campaign was exported 15.100 tons.

-A 60% was exported by air and 40% by ship.

-The main destination was the United States, with the 60% of shipments, followed by Europe and Canada.

-The production of the NOA region was 4800 tons.

-For the NEA region, production was slightly higher than the previous year, with 7000 tons.
